PM attends Interpol General Assembly in Rome

BELGRADE -- PM Ivica Da?i? will take part in the ministerial meeting of the 81st Interpol General Assembly in Rome on Monday, it has been announced.

Da?i?, who also serves as interior minister, will give a speech entitled "Violent crime and the rule of law".

Da?i? will meet with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, parliament Speaker Gianfranco Fini, and Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, the Serbian government said in a release.

According to a release from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Da?i? and Terzi will meet on Monday afternoon.

Da?i? will also confer with Italy's Interior Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri and Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States Dominique Mamberti.

The main topic of the 81st Interpol General Assembly is "Challenges for Police Facing Contemporary Violence".

This year's event, which will run through November 8, will bring together justice, security and home affairs ministers from some 100 countries.

As Interpol's supreme governing body, the General Assembly meets once a year and makes all major decisions affecting general policy, resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programs of activities.

Interpol, which was founded in Vienna in 1923, is the world's largest criminal police organization with 190 member countries.

Serbia became a member of Interpol on September 24, 2001.
